What is insulating tape?

Insulating tape is a tape used to insulate electricity and prevent unwanted currents. The advantage of insulating tape is that, unlike other types of tape, it does not conduct electricity. The tape can be easily stuck around a conductor. Not only does the tape have an insulating effect, it is also used to mark cables or fuses that should not be turned on, protect edges, secure cable sheaths, and prevent damage.

Using insulating tape

Insulating tape does not conduct electrical current and, as indicated earlier, can be used to bundle electrical wires. This allows you to recognize at a glance which wire belongs to which one. Ordinary types of tape are simply not suitable for insulating electrical cables due to fire hazards, among other reasons. Every home has several appliances and electrical cables. Think of speaker cables and TV cables. Electrical currents need to be protected and insulated, both for high voltage and low voltage cables. This is where insulating tape comes in handy. In addition, this tape offers the right protection. After all, the more meters of cable you have, the greater the chance of cable failure. In this case, use a heat shrink tubing or replace the cable.

Black, 0.18mm thick premium tape virtually invulnerable to environmental degradation. Scotch® Super 33+™ tape is a professional grade PVC tape. This moisture-resistant tape is highly abrasion resistant and provides excellent protection against alkali, acids, copper corrosion and varying weather conditions. Scotch® Super 33+™ insulation tape is designed to provide consistent performance at temperatures up to 105 °C (220 °F). This moldable tape also withstands temperatures down to -18 °C (0 °F). The combination of an elastic backing and high-performance adhesive provides compact, moisture-resistant electrical and mechanical protection. The insulation tape is designed for electrical insulation of all wire and cable branches up to 600 V and at temperatures up to 105 °C (220 °F).

3M Scotch 35 insulation tape

Colored version of the Scotch Super 33+ insulation tape with virtually identical technical properties. Available in various colors including red, yellow green, blue, brown, white, gray, orange and purple. Scotch® Vinyl color-coded 35 insulation tape is a high-quality, color-coded PVC insulation tape. This flame-retardant tape is suitable for use in phase identification, color-coding of pipes and piping systems and for marking safety areas. This tape is rated to 600 V and can withstand a temperature range of -10 to 90 °C. Scotch® Vinyl color-coded 35 insulation tape provides electrical and mechanical protection with the combination of an aggressive, pressure-sensitive rubber resin adhesive and an elastic PVC backing. This tape is flame retardant and highly resistant to UV radiation, abrasion, moisture, alkalis, acids, solvents and varying weather conditions. Stretches easily and adheres in virtually any shape. Ideal for insulating electrical wires and is compatible with synthetic cable insulations, jackets and splices.

3M Scotch Super 88 insulation tape

Extra thick (0.22mm), black, easy-to-use insulation tape for all seasons. Scotch® Super 88 Vinyl tape is a high-quality, 0.22mm thick PVC insulation tape that can withstand all weather conditions. The tape is designed to provide consistent performance at temperatures up to 105 °C (220 °F). This formable tape can also withstand temperatures down to -18 °C (0 °F). Scotch® Super 88 tape is highly abrasion resistant, offers high moisture resistance and resists alkali, acids, corrosion and varying weather conditions (including direct sunlight). The combination of an elastic backing and high-performance adhesive provides compact, moisture-resistant electrical and mechanical protection. The tape is designed for electrical insulation (especially at low temperatures) of all wire and cable terminations up to 600 V and at temperatures up to 105°C.
