The stiff fiberglass backing and strong resin adhesive provide durability and tear resistance. These discs are compatible with 3M backing discs (sold separately).

The performance of our discs far exceeds that of conventional fiber discs. The advanced abrasive technology makes these products an excellent choice for intensive applications including weld removal, blending and detailed finishing operations. High performance suitable for application on carbon steel keep cost and performance in balance and choose the abrasive with just the right life and cutting force. These discs feature Precision Shaped Grain Technology (PSG) for an optimal balance of speed and life, suitable for most operations on carbon steel.
The disc consists of a rigid fiberglass backing and a strong resin adhesive for durability and tear resistance. These features, combined with the fast-cutting abrasive grain, allow you to machine more parts with one disc and therefore reduce the need for disc replacement. The 782C's exceptional life and cutting power make this one of 3M's best discs for intensive manufacturing environments. The performance of this product far exceeds that of conventional fiber discs.
In tasks where more professional fiber discs probably cannot be used to their full potential, but where productivity is still key, these fiber discs deliver excellent throughput performance. These products are an excellent choice for a range of applications including chamfering, beveling, deburring and weld removal.
Increase your production with 3M Precision Shaped Grain technology 3M Precision Shaped Grain is designed for improved output in light to intensive material removal, allowing users to complete tough tasks faster and with less effort. Because the abrasive grain wears evenly and stays sharp, PSG products last significantly longer than their conventional counterparts and deliver long-term high performance in production applications. To achieve this high level of performance, 3M engineers applied proprietary microreplication technologies to create very precise triangular structures from 3M Ceramic Abrasive Grain material. These structures were then electrostatically oriented and placed as sharp triangles on the back of the disc. These ultra-sharp dots cut through metal like a knife, instead of grooving or plowing like conventional abrasives. As the disc wears down, the points break off, creating new sharp points.
Tips for optimal use Fiber discs are suitable for intensive use and have a tough, rigid backing of vulcanized fiberglass that is wear-resistant and stands up to tough grinding applications. For optimum performance, these discs should be used with a backing pad of the appropriate density for the particular application: a lighter backing pad for lighter cutting operations and a firmer pad for heavy-duty applications. Use of the proper backing pad ensures that the abrasive mineral remains sharp for maximum service life.
